About the Club
A community of amateur radio operators in Chilliwack, BC — building skills, serving the public, and keeping the airwaves friendly.
The Surrey Amateur Radio Communications Society (SARC) is a volunteer-run, non-profit group of licensed amateur radio operators in Surrey, British Columbia. We operate the club callsign VE7RSC on the air, at events, and in support of community partners.
Our mission
We advance amateur radio communications, further the knowledge of electronics, and provide communications support to civil authorities in emergencies. We assist community events that need reliable communications, and we foster goodwill and fellowship among radio amateurs of every experience level.
What is amateur radio?
Amateur radio (or "ham radio") is a licensed worldwide service for technical experimentation, self-training, and emergency communications. Operators use a wide variety of modes — voice, digital, Morse code, satellite — across many frequency bands. It's both a hobby and a public service.
Licensing in Canada
Amateur radio in Canada is administered by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED). The entry-level qualification is the Basic certification, earned by passing a written exam. Higher scores and additional exams unlock more privileges (such as HF bands). The club runs Basic courses and connects you with experienced examiners.
